Hey Team, Dan here.

As we navigate our way towards our goals, we must first embark on a goal-setting process to determine what the required inputs (strength and conditioning) and outputs (bigger arms, run a 10k) are.

As we can see from the examples above, inputs refer to the resources, efforts, and actions we invest in pursuing our goals, while outputs are the measurable results or outcomes we expect to achieve.

I wanted to share with you some of the processes I go through with new members when creating our strategy and plan of execution:

  1. Identifying Inputs: It's vital to clearly identify and understand what inputs are necessary to move closer to our goals. These inputs can include time, effort, finances, knowledge. By outlining these inputs, we can effectively plan our path forward.

  2. Measuring Outputs: The outputs, or outcomes, are what we hope to achieve by committing our inputs. These could be quantifiable targets, such as scale weight, body measurements, or performance related goals (5k/10k times, strength testing) . Accurately measuring outputs allows us to track our progress and make necessary adjustments along the way.

  3. Expectations: You get out what you put in. Do your inputs align with the desired outputs? Loftier goals require greater sacrifice and commitment.

  4. Feedback Loop: Inputs and outputs create a feedback loop. By comparing the results (outputs) to our initial expectations, we gain insights into the effectiveness of our efforts. If our outputs fall short, it's an opportunity to reconsider our inputs and make necessary changes to improve our chances of success.

  5. Optimization: Understanding the relationship between inputs and outputs enables us to optimize our strategies. We can allocate our resources more efficiently, focus on high-impact actions, and refine our approach based on what works best.

At Pearson Performance, we sit down prior to Week 1 and create a crystal clear vision of what your goals/outputs are, and then work backwards to determine the necessary inputs are to get you there, and what tools are needed to effectively and enjoyably navigate your fitness journey.

Last week I launched The Hybrid Athlete Project (THAP), an online and in-person training community. THAP has a range of training programmes such as Hybrid Athlete, Performance, Muscle, Lean and Conditioning.

It is your ticket aboard the Express A Train to your athletic and aesthetic potential - Strength & Conditioning for the Masses
